Former Army officer James Cassidy formed Oakas in 2008 following a successful career as an artillery officer, serving in operational environments around the world with 29 Commando and 7 Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery.
With a Information Systems MSc (Masters) from Cranfield University, experience working in the Ministry of Defence, and a post military career as a climate change consultant; James has since built a strong reputation for delivering effective outcomes at senior levels in both military and commercial clients around the world.
David Smith is an experienced Chartered Accountant and business consultant. A former partner in a practice where he developed a reputation for no-nonsense business advice, David now brings that expertise and stability to Oakas in his role as FD.
Lieutenant General Sir David Capewell KCB OBE
Sir David Capewell is a former Royal Marines officer whose distinguished military career spanned operational theatres, NATO, senior staff roles and culminated in his appointment as the UK’s Chief of Joint Operations (CJO) in the rank of Lieutenant General.
He was appointed OBE in the June Birthday honours list 2002 for service in Northern Ireland and Afghanistan. In January 2002, he was appointed Chief of Staff, UK Joint Force Headquarters, in which role he served as Chief of Operations and Intelligence to the British Commander for the invasion of Iraq. He went on to be British Liaison Officer to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the United States in 2004, and was promoted to brigadier on 18 October 2004. He became Assistant Chief of Staff (Operations) at Permanent Joint Headquarters in May 2005 and Commander of 3 Commando Brigade in June 2007. Promoted to major-general also on 6 May 2008 he became Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Operations) at the Ministry of Defence in August 2010 and Chief of Joint Operations at Permanent Joint Headquarters in December 2011, with the rank of lieutenant-general from 13 December. He was the Hudson Fellow at the University of Oxford 2015.
Capewell was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) in the 2014 New Year Honours for commanding UK Global Operations during a period of unprecedented volatility.
Richard is responsible for identifying the needs of potential new customers and developing solutions for them. This includes ensuring that the Oakas programme is balanced, coherent, and that potential synergies between its various areas of business are explored to the benefit of Oakas' clients.
With a background of 30 years in the British Army, Richard brings command experience on military operations and a track-record of project and programme management in both military and commercial environments.
Having graduated from the Strategy and Security Institute, Thomas fulfills the role of Operations Manager
After completing a Bachelors degree in Middle East Studies and a Masters in Applied Security Strategy, Thomas worked in insurance for a year before taking up his position at Oakas Ltd. He has responsibility for day to day coordination of the Head Office.
Michele is primarily responsible for contractual administration with clients, associates and consultants.
With experience as a former director of a recruitment company, Michele also manages the company’s HR systems and our intern and permanent placements. Michele’s in-depth knowledge of contract requirements and her familiarity with our pool of over 400 associates are essential pillars in our drive for quality and continuity.

Major General Rob Weighill CBE
Maj Gen (Retd) Rob Weighill CBE spent 33 years in the British Army in a career that spanned extensive operational command and staff experience in many diverse theatres, where he led cutting-edge development of highly complex air/land integration operations.
He completed his service with NATO’s Southern Flank joint multinational headquarters based in Naples as the head of planning, policy, training and civil-military engagement. While serving with NATO he accrued considerable understanding and aptitude for complex, joint, multi-agency planning and execution of contingencies stemming from crisis response and management in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Africa, Middle East and Mediterranean. In 2011 led the rapid planning for NATO’s joint air and maritime operations in Libya and subsequently held the position of operations director for the duration of the 7 month mission to protect civilians under a UN Mandate.
Lieutenant General Philip Jones CB CBE
Lt Gen Philip Jones served for 35 years in the British Army, his successful career culminating in the appointment of Chief of Staff Allied Command Transformation NATO in Norfolk, Virginia.
Philip has a deep knowledge and experience of joint operations, both as Chief of Staff UK Joint Forces Command and Chief of Staff ACT. He has conducted an extended tour as the Military Advisor to the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Representative and served as the UK Government's Military Attaché to Washington. His ability to understand the core issues to define the requirement and deliver the required solution is unparalleled and he is a valuable member of the Oakas team.
Vice Admiral Peter Hudson CB CBE
After a distinguished Naval career culminating in appointment as Vice Admiral, Peter Hudson joins Oakas to provide industry leading expertise on management, leadership and transformational change at senior levels.
Peter's career has seen him rise from junior officer to senior command, with key appointments both operationally and headquarters based. He commanded numerous ships and was appointed CBE in recognition of his work as first Commanding Officer of the assault ship HMS Albion. Peter's later appointments included Commander of the UK's Amphibious Forces and Commander of all UK Maritime Forces which included a spell as Commander of European Naval Forces in the Indian Ocean conducting maritime security operations. His final appointment was as Head of NATO’s new Maritime Command Headquarters in Northwood during which time he served as senior maritime advisor to SHAPE and led the HQ to full operational capability. He brings a wealth of operational Naval and command experience to Oakas and its clients.
Eamonn has held academic posts at the Universities of Warwick, Bath and Lancaster. He has worked on collaborative research projects with numerous Government bodies including the National Health Service, Department for Education and Skills, Department for International Development, Natural Environment Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council. He has also worked closely with private sector organizations including Cadbury Schweppes, Unilever, United Utilities, BNFL and major mining, oil and gas companies in South Africa and Mozambique.

Having served in the British Army for 35 Years, Mark has forged a specialist career as a media and strategic communications expert.
Mark's career has seen him advise senior UK military officers during the ongoing crisis in Syria, train senior military and police leaders in crisis communications, and work with politicians from across the globe. He has headed the Defence Media Operations Centre, delivering joint media operations capability to ongoing operations, and worked as a communications consultant to the National Security Council communications team in the Cabinet Office. Mark offers a rare insight into the importance of effective communications whether it be during a crisis or at the strategic level.
Paula Middlehurst has anchored primetime news on British television for two decades and is best known as a familiar face on Sky News, fronting 24-hour live news coverage from their London headquarters.
